Development Center supercomputers city of San Diego has created a high-performance PC with SSD-hard disks, which can solve the problems of a scientific nature faster than computers with the usual hard disks. SSD-HDD allows greater bandwidth for data, allowing the supercomputer to analyze data in order of magnitude faster than the supercomputers on the basis of hard drives. Such a machine can solve the problem of extracting data ten times faster than even the larger supercomputers that operate using the technology «rotating disk». The company intends to use the HPC-Dash system to develop new drugs and study the origin of the Earth.

According to the company, they develop the first system for HPC, which uses the technology of flash memory, and have already begun testing new items. The supercomputer consists of 68 servers, Appro International GreenBlade, equipped with 4-core Intel Xeon 5500 with a maximum capacity of up to 5.2 teraflops. Each node supercomputer has 48Gb of memory (total memory in 16 segments - 768Gb).

The machine uses solid-state SATA drives from Intel with four nodes I / O. They provide the remaining parts of the machine flash memory capacity up to 1TB. On the overall capacity of servers in the company has not yet reported.
